Being a lifeguard is a great way of earning some extra money while studying and is a excellent route back into work. Lifeguards are always in high demand and comes with a highly competitive starting salary (£8ph+). All in at the deep end Lifeguard courses are ran in accordance with the UK’s largest lifeguard training organisation, The Royal Lifesaving Society.

in at the deep end can provide lifeguarding or lifesaving courses to people of all ages. Courses can be ran with topics of your choosing and can include open water rescue. Certificated lifeguarding courses are available via the Survive and Save Programme (children aged twelve and over) and the National Pool Lifeguard Qualifications (for people aged sixteen and over).

Lifeguarding courses are a great addition to schools via their GCSE PE and PSHE syllabuses.

Royal Life Saving Society Courses

National Pool Lifeguard qualification (NPLQ)

  • is the gold standard in lifeguarding in the UK and abroad. Candidates must be aged 16+ to gain this qualification and attend a minimum of 40 contact hours of training. Candidates need to ensure they have a good standard of fitness before commencing the course.
  • in at the deep end regularly run courses in the North East, or, can provide trainers for your own organisation as and when required.

National Rescue Test for Swimming Teachers and Coaches

  • While the NPLQ qualification is needed to lifeguard and supervise unstructured sessions this qualification is the minimum requirement for people wishing to supervise structured activities – for example swimming lessons or fitness classes.
  • This course runs for a minimum of 2 days and has options to allow the bolt on of external first aid or AED qualifications.
  • in at the deep end can provide trainers for your own organisation as and when required to ensure your staff are fully qualified and competent for the jobs you wish them to undertake.

Emergency Responder

  • The emergency responder course is designed to give people the skills and knowledge they’d need to assist in an emergency. It is a superb qualification to train Reception, Admin or Security staff in so that they have the training to assist in an emergency if required.

Ongoing training

  • Did you know that it is a legal requirement to provide lifeguards with a minimum of two hours continuous ongoing training per month? This is to ensure your compliance with HSG179 and the RLSS Red Stripe manuals.
  • in at the deep end can provide on-going training to your staff at one of our venues or we can come to you.
  • We have contracts in place to provide regular training to a co-ed school in Northumberland and also have a contract in place to supply trainer assessors at short notice local authority in the North East should their trainers be unable to work.

Assessments

  • The RLSS NPLQ and NRASTC qualifications need to be externally assessed by people independent of the course and trainer. in at the deep end has a large bank of trainers available to provide this service should you need it.

Swimming Teacher Association Courses

Award or Certificate Courses

  • Want to train as a swimming teacher?
  • in at the deep end run regular swimming teacher courses across the North East, or, can come to your venue and train your own staff in house
  • Information on the contents of these courses and the skills covered can be found on the STA website.

Safety Award for Teachers

  • This qualification is very similar to the RLSS NRASTC qualification, however, rather than being over 2 days it is over 1.
  • This qualification allows people to supervise structured activities – for example swimming lessons or fitness classes.

Assessments

First Aid

  • All of our first aid qualifications have the option of being externally accredited via Highfield ABC or the RLSS.
  • Courses are provided in a cost effective manner and we aim to provide high quality, affordable and effective training at your own venue at a time and date to suit you.

AED

  • Our AED courses range from 4 – 6 hours depending upon your requirements. This course is aimed at people who may need to be proficient in using an automated external defibrillator

Paediatric course

  • If you work in a school or early years setting this course is a requirement of Oftsed under the ‘Safeguarding’ category.
  • There are now two versions of the course available – a one and two day version. It is good practice to at least some staff qualified in the two day version and if possible have a mixture of both on your team.
  • This course does not include any treatment for casualties over the age of eight and so should be interlinked with the other qualifications available.

First Aid at Work

  • We can provide training for both the three day initial qualification and two day requalification course. This course is a legal requirement if you have, or expect to have, more than 100 people on site at any one time.
  • This qualification does not include child or baby CPR as standard although it is possible to bolt it on as an non-accredited bolt on.

Emergency First Aid at Work

  • This course is designed to sit along side the full First Aid at Work qualification and provides staff with the hands on skills to deal with an emergency until more qualified and appropriate help arrives. This is a one day course.
  • This qualification does not include child or baby CPR as standard although it is possible to bolt it on as an non-accredited bolt on.

CPR Update

  • Did you know that CPR should be refreshed every 12 months regardless of the qualification you undertook?
  • We are able to provide a quick three hour update to ensure your ongoing competencies.

Medical Emergencies

  • We have a host of trainers qualified in providing medical emergency training including anaphylaxis, epilepsy and asthma as well as catastrophic bleeding. If you would like any specific training please let us know.
