Lifeguarding and Supervision Courses

Being a lifeguard is a great way of earning some extra money while studying and is a excellent route back into work. Lifeguards are always in high demand and comes with a highly competitive starting salary (£8ph+).


All in at the deep end Lifeguard courses are ran in accordance with the UK's largest lifeguard training organisation, The Royal Lifesaving Society or Safety Training Awards.

in at the deep end can provide lifeguarding or lifesaving courses to people of all ages. Courses can be ran with topics of your choosing and can include open water rescue. Certificated lifeguarding courses are available via the Survive and Save Programme (children aged twelve and over) and the National Pool Lifeguard Qualifications (for people aged sixteen and over).

Lifeguarding courses are a great addition to schools via their GCSE PE and PSHE syllabuses.

National Pool Lifeguard
Qualification (NPLQ)

Course Details

Is the gold standard in lifeguarding in the UK and abroad. Candidates must be aged 16+ to gain this qualification and attend a minimum of 40 contact hours of training. Candidates need to ensure they have a good standard of fitness before commencing the course.

National Rescue Test for
Swimming Teachers and Coaches

Course Details

While the NPLQ qualification is needed to lifeguard and supervise unstructured sessions this qualification is the minimum requirement for people wishing to supervise structured activities – for example swimming lessons or fitness classes. It is not, however, suitable for sessions which are not structured and under the control of a teacher or coach.

This course runs for a minimum of 2 days and has options to allow the bolt on of external first aid or AED qualifications.

There is now the availability to train as NRASTC Light which is a one day course and designed for teaching staff who work in an environment where lifeguards are also present during sessions.

Emergency
Responder

Course Details

The emergency responder course is designed to give people the skills and knowledge they would need to assist in an emergency. It is a superb qualification to train Reception, Admin or Security staff in so that they have the training to assist in an emergency if required.

It is designed for people who will have no direct supervision of the poolside. It is a supporting qualification only.

Aquatic Therapy Shallow
Water Rescue

Course Details

This is a supervision and rescue qualification for therapists, teachers and support staff working on the poolside or in the water during activities such as, aquatic therapy or therapeutic exercise and play.

The qualification is suitable for use in shallow pools where the rescuer will not be required to swim to perform the rescue with water no deeper than the rescuers chest depth.

STA Safety Award
for Teachers

Course Details

This qualification is very similar to the RLSS NRASTC qualification, however, rather than being over 2 days it is over 1.

This qualification allows people to supervise structured activities – for example swimming lessons or fitness classes.

Ongoing
Training

Details

Did you know that it is a legal requirement to provide lifeguards with a minimum of two hours continuous ongoing training per month? This is to ensure your compliance with HSG179 and the RLSS Red Stripe manuals.

in at the deep end can provide on-going training to your staff at one of our venues or we can come to you.

We have contracts in place to provide regular training to a co-ed school in Northumberland and also have a contract in place to supply trainer assessors at short notice local authority in the North East should their trainers be unable to work.

Assessment
& Qualifications

Details

Where qualifications need to be externally assessed we offer the ability to provide a trainer assessor to asses these for you using our large bank of trainers.
