Impact & Outcomes

Supporting communities and the swimming workforce

The programme is designed to deliver meaningful and measurable impact. By combining access to swimming lessons with teacher training, the programme supports both community wellbeing and the development of the aquatics workforce.

Community Impact

The programme aims to increase access to swimming lessons for people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to learn. This includes supporting:

Young people with limited access to swimming lessons

Communities where swimming participation is low

Supporting communities with lower participation in swimming

Targeted initiatives such as non swimming teenage boys

By improving access to swimming, the programme helps build water confidence and improve water safety.

Workforce Impact

The programme also supports the development of the swimming teaching workforce. Trainee teachers gain real teaching experience during their training, helping them develop the confidence and practical skills needed to become qualified instructors.

Providing real teaching experience for trainee teachers

Helping train the next generation of swimming instructors

Strengthening the aquatics workforce

This helps strengthen the pipeline of trained swimming teachers across the UK

Measuring impact

IATDE People CIC will monitor the programme to understand its impact and ensure it continues to develop effectively.

Measures may include:

• number of participants supported
• number of trainee teachers gaining experience
• community partnerships established
• improvements in confidence and participation

Feedback from participants, parents and partners will also help shape the programme as it grows.

Long term vision

As the programme develops, it aims to expand across additional training centres and communities.

Future phases may include providing essential equipment such as swimwear and goggles for participants who do not have the basic items needed to take part in swimming lessons.

Removing these barriers will help ensure more people can learn to swim and develop confidence in the
