This course is completed entirely remotely, meaning you can complete it at your own pace, at a time and location which suits you best. It is possible to complete this course within a few days; however, most people take longer – it all depends on you, if we are being honest! Regardless of which option you choose, you are not left on your own. Our work packs have been designed and tested extensively by Mark, a senior leader across a multi-academy Trust, an STA ‘train the tutor’ and RLSS Trainer Assessor. Email advice is also available as and when needed.

All course manuals and work will be sent to you via next-day delivery, and if you choose the Zoom support option, you will have up to 8 1:1 sessions with Mark during the course to offer support and guidance and be that critical friend on your AET journey.

This course also includes tutoring a 15min micro-teach on a subject of your choice. We will work with you to arrange this, again, all via Zoom! You will put the skills you learn during the course into practice for this final presentation.

The Award in Education and Training qualification is the first qualification you undertake on your road to teaching more formalised qualifications. It is the pre-requisite for roles such as the STA Aquatics Tutor course and STA and RLSS first aid trainer assessors tutor statuses.

Assessment Information

This course includes a variety of assessment methods as detailed below:

  • Tutor Assessment – completion of 3 written assignments based upon a study pack sent by IATDE
  • Completion of a lesson plan and then delivery of a lesson between 15 and 20 minutes long, which is recorded and sent to IATDE for assessment
  • Evaluating at least another 3 people’s lessons remotely (recordings are provided for you to do this).

You must submit your initial assignments within six months of starting the qualification. After that, you have an additional 18 months to complete all assignments and micro-teaches. You must ensure that you can meet these deadlines before enrolling on the course.

Re-assessments

While we hope this wont apply to anybody we are aware that sometimes nerves get the better of us! Where this is the case if a learner is unsuccessful of any part of the assessment process they will only have to re-sit the required element.

Resits must take place within 6 weeks of the fail and incur a minimum charge of £25.

Pre-requisites

The pre-requisites for this course are:

  • To be 19 years of age or older
  • Have a good understanding of information and communications technologies (ICT)
  • Have the ability to read and communicate clearly and accurately in written and spoken English – to a minimum standard Functional Skills Level 2.

To be able to access and engage in this course you will need the following for your witten assignments and to enable recording of your practcal teaching:

  • A computer, laptop, tablet or phone for viewing and editing documents (Word or equivalent, PDF)
  • A computer, laptop, tablet or phone sharing and uploading documents
  • A computer, laptop, tablet or phone which can access Zoom or an equivalent and has access to a microphone and camera
  • Pen, paper, notepad as needed.

No course materials will be supplied until a purchase order has been received.

Monthly Payment

Flexible monthly payments are available via GoCardless for a set fee of £20 and £2 per payment.

As an example somebody who had a course total of £275 and wished to pay over 5 instalments would pay £63 per month. This is made up of the £275 fee, £20 admin charge and 5 x £2 monthly payment fees giving a total of £315.

The following additional terms and conditions apply to flexible payments:

  • Failed payments will be subject to a £7.50 admin fee
  • Places will be reserved once the payment plan is set up via GoCardless
  • A minimum of £75 must have been paid before course materials will be sent out
  • The full and final payment must be made before submission of your work for certification
  • Refunds will be processed in accordance with our Booking Terms and Conditions and additional information below. Any refunds will be minus the £20 admin fee and £2 per transaction fee
  • Any chargebacks to direct debits result in removal from the course and a £25 admin fee to re-join.
