Important Update Regarding Castle View Community and Fitness Centre

Last update: 30th May 2024

We want to share some important news with our valued community about our swimming lessons and activities at the Castle View venue. As of this summer, with potentially our last session being held on Sunday, 7th of July in at the deep end will no longer be offering swimming lessons or activities at the Castle View Centre in Sunderland. Please understand that this date change does not align with our standard term schedule, and importantly, this is not a decision we have made independently. While we are disappointed not to finish the term as usual, we must respect and facilitate this change as directed. Unless we inform people otherwise this is the date we do expect to close – although as yet we’ve had no formal notification from the Academy we wish to keep you all informed so alternative plans can be made.

This change is due to the new management by Vivify, who will be taking over the operation of the entire centre, encompassing both the aquatic and dry activities. We want to express our deep gratitude to you all for your support and for being part of our journey at Castle View.

We understand that this news may come as a surprise and we share your sentiment. Please know that we have done everything within our power to continue our services at the Castle View Centre. in at the deep end were fully engaged in the tendering process, striving to extend our partnership with the centre. Our team even managed the centre during the interim period of the tendering process, which reflects our commitment and dedication to this community.

Although we are saddened that we won’t be able to continue providing swimming lessons at Castle View, we are grateful for having been considered in the tendering process and for the opportunity to serve you in this capacity. Our priority has always been, and continues to be, the well-being and development of our swimmers.

Continued Commitment to Our Swimmers
While we are transitioning away from the Castle View venue, we want to reassure our community that this change does not affect our other classes. in at the deep end continues to operate fully at our other venues, Thornhill in Sunderland and Seaview in Seaham. We understand the importance of providing uninterrupted and quality swimming instruction, and we are committed to accommodating our Castle View swimmers at these locations.

To ensure that we can welcome everyone interested in continuing their swimming journey with us, we are currently working on increasing the capacity at both Thornhill and Seaview. Our aim is to make this transition as smooth as possible for all our swimmers and to ensure that every swimmer has a place to pursue their training without significant disruption.

We appreciate your understanding during this period of change and are pleased to continue offering exceptional swimming lessons at our other venues. Please stay tuned for updates and session availability that we will be announcing as and when we have it. If you have any concerns or need assistance in transferring to another venue, our team is here to help guide you through the process.

Refund and Payment Information
For those affected by the change in venue, refunds will be processed during the last two weeks of lessons at Castle View. Additionally, we will automatically stop payments before the transition for our monthly payment subscribers to ensure you only pay for lessons up to the date we stop running lessons.

For those who would prefer to not get a refund and instead have 2 additional lessons this is something we can facilitate if you contact us direct. We are hoping to be able to offer this as either taking a double lesson on some nights (e.g. swimming at 4 and 4.30pm instead of just 4pm) or attending an extra night. These spaces will be first come first served but open to all. It may also be a way of trialling the sessions at Thornhill or Seaview capacity dependent.

FAQs

At the moment, we are not 100% sure. However, we believe and are working to the date of Sunday the 7th of July. This is two weeks earlier than the term was initially due to end.

No, all other lessons will continue as normal and in fact we will be offering more sessions at these venues from Sept. 2024

Seaview

We will be running additional sessions on a Tuesday and Friday at Seaview, Seaham.

All sessions will run as follows:

  • 3.45pm – Duckling
  • 4.15pm – Jellyfish
  • 4.45pm – Seastar
  • 5.15pm – Goldfish.

All nights will also have 4 x 1:1 sessions available at the same timeslots as above (with Wednesday having 2 1:1 slots available per 30 mins).

Thornhill Academy

At Thornhill we will be running new classes on a Saturday and Sunday afternoon as well as our current Monday and Friday evening and Saturday mornings. If demand dictates we can also extend the Monday and Friday sessions.

Current Sessions

Monday and Friday will have an extra 1:1 slot at 5pm, 5.30pm, 6pm and 6.30pm. Saturday will have an additional 1:1 slot every 30 mins from 9am to 11am and 2 slots from 11 to 12pm.

Saturday PM

  • 1pm – Duckling and Octopus
  • 1.30pm – Jellyfish and Sea Monkey
  • 2.00pm – Seastar and Shark/Terrapin
  • 2.30pm – Goldfish
  • 3.00pm – Babyswim

There will also be at least 1 x 1:1 per session available with 2 at 2.30 and 3pm.

 Sunday PM

  • 2pm – baby swim
  • 2.30pm – Duckling and Octopus
  • 3pm – Jellyfish and Sea Monkey
  • 3.30pm – Seastar and Shark/Terrapin
  • 4pm – Goldfish

There will also be at least 1 x 1:1 slot available every session with 2 at 2pm and 4pm.

Based on the closure of Castle View being the 7th of July we are planning on giving Castle View swimmers priority to book the new sessions and will open enrolments on the 1st of July. Further information will be communicated closer to the time.

We are hopeful the majority of the team will move over to the new sessions – and have already been in consultation with them around this. However, at present we cannot currently confirm who is moving to where and when. This is due to the changes that usually occur over a summer as well as the changes to classes (e.g. staff moving to uni, college timetables changing etc.).

Refunds

If you paid in full online or in Centre we will issue refunds in the last two weeks before the end of term (i.e. weeks of 24th of June and 1st of July).

If you pay online monthly we will start cancelling payments around the beginning of June to make sure you only pay up to the end of term. We will do this automatically for you even if you are wishing to enrol in a session elsewhere from Sept.

You can attend any of our sessions during these two weeks to collect your refunds (Monday, Tuesday or Thursday 4 to 5.30pm, Wednesday 4.30 to 6pm, Saturday 9am to 12 noon or Sunday 11.30am to 2.30pm). You do not need to attend your usual slot if its more convenient.

After the last day at Castle View (i.e. currently the 7th of July) please contact us and we can arrange this via your card if you paid online, or we will have to issue a cheque.

We will credit any missed weeks towards your new terms fees, however, this may need to be done manually. We will explain this when you contact us to enrol

Yes! If you wish to do so, please contact us as soon as possible so we can reserve you alternative slots. This is available to all swimmers – group classes, one to ones and Level Water swimmers.

The options can include doing 2 x 1 hour sessions on your current night, 2 x additional nights (which don’t need to be the same day or consecutive weeks) OR at one of our other centres if you would like to try that out before booking to swap in September.

Please note that all spaces are first come first served and capacity dependent.

Level Water and Autism Swim transfers

Yes! These are integral to our swim school and all sessions will move over to the new venues.

We will try as much as possible. If you would like to have a look around at either venue please let us know and we can arrange this. We may also be able to arrange a trial session before the end of term for you (in our current time slots) to see how swimmers manage. However, we cannot always guarantee this for 1:1s simply due to staffing.

Unfortunately not. Thornhill does have a separate area where a single person (and adult) can go to change, however this is outside of the changing rooms and is classed as a washing room. Some swimmers do use this at the moment and we can show you it before you wish to move if you that helps.

As a workaround a lot of swimmers at both venues currently use dry robes to use at the end of lessons to avoid having to change swimmers – both for speed and convenience.

Unfortunately not. At present Seaview does have some accessible access via a ramp on to poolside, however, there are no hoists in to or out of the pool. Thornhill has no hoist and requires swimmers to access poolside via a few steps.

Please feel free to contact us and we can show you around before booking if you wish to see the venues.

We have been communicating regularly with Level Water about the closure of lessons and they are fully aware of the changes taking place. If you are not able to return in Sept. or are moving to another venue we will inform them of this as part of our usual reporting procedures.

If you wish to request access to another provider please contact Level Water direct.

Unfortunately we do not believe the new provider at Castle View are Level Water providers.

We are going to bring forward badge week at Castle View to the 3rd of June (with a wrap up week on the 10th of June) to try and ensure everybody gets a badge before the end of term. These will be available to collect on the weeks of the 24th June and 1st July.

Unfortunately we are unable to post any badges out. However, if you contact us you could collect via Thornhill later in the term.

Unfortunately we are unable to guarantee this due to having to get a badge order in specifically for Castle View swimmers to ensure they are here before the end of term. We will always try and get a badge that is closest to their ability, or, if not will have a ‘Well Done’ badge available for them instead.
